Online Store Policy Templates

Online stores are subject to consumer protection law wherever their customers are. Many states and provinces require a retailer's refund policy to be disclosed clearly before the sale, and some give customers the right to a refund if it is not. Internet sales laws can also require specific disclosures, cancellation rights and refund timelines. A policy copied from a large retailer may promise more than you can deliver, or leave out what your jurisdiction requires.

The templates in this category are written to the consumer protection rules of a named jurisdiction. Each one sets out how returns, refunds, exchanges, defective items, shipping problems and exceptions are handled, in plain language customers can follow, with guidance notes on where and how the policy must be displayed. Shaded fields mark your own choices, such as time limits and restocking fees.

Display the policy where the law requires, link it from every product and checkout page, and apply it consistently to every customer.
