Family and Relationship Templates
Family agreements decide what happens to a family's property, support and children if a relationship ends, and family legislation sets the rules they are measured against. An agreement must usually be in writing, signed and witnessed, and courts can set aside terms that are significantly unfair, that were made without full financial disclosure or that were signed under pressure. Independent legal advice for each person is one of the strongest protections an agreement can have.
The templates in this category are written to a named jurisdiction's family law statute. Each one sets out financial disclosure, property division, debts, support and, where it applies, parenting arrangements, with guidance notes that explain the default rules the agreement replaces and how courts review agreements of this kind. Shaded fields mark the decisions each person needs to make.
Each person should get independent legal advice before signing. It costs far less than defending an agreement that was signed without it.
