Childcare and Nanny Templates

Families who hire a nanny or caregiver become employers, often without realizing it. Employment standards apply in the home as they do anywhere else, and several provinces and states add specific rules for domestic workers, such as a required written contract, a registry or record of hours, rules on room and board deductions and limits on what can be charged. Payroll deductions, remittances and workers' compensation coverage may also apply.

The templates here are written to a named jurisdiction's employment standards for domestic and in-home workers. Each contract sets out duties, hours, pay, overtime, rest periods, vacation, accommodation if any, notice and termination, with guidance notes explaining what the law requires and where families have a choice. Shaded fields mark what to complete.

Register with the tax authority as an employer if required, and give the caregiver a signed copy of the contract before work starts.
